Biography

His Excellency Dr. Chibamba Favour Kanyama is a distinguished Zambian diplomat, economist, media executive, and communications strategist, currently serving as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Zambia to the United States of America, a position he assumed in 2023. Born on 26 January 1965 in Chikankata District, Zambia, Ambassador Kanyama has built a multifaceted career spanning diplomacy, corporate leadership, media, and economic policy.

Dr. Kanyama received his early education at Chikankata Mission School before proceeding to the University of Zambia, where he studied between 1985 and 1989 and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication with Economics. He later earned a Master of Science degree in Development Finance from the University of Reading in 2001 as a Chevening Scholar, and subsequently obtained a PhD in Management.

An accomplished corporate leader and public intellectual, Dr. Kanyama has held several high-level positions in both the public and private sectors. He served as Director General of the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) from 2012 to 2014, and later as Communications Advisor at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C. Prior to his diplomatic appointment, he was the founding Chief Executive Officer of Bridges Limited, a consultancy firm focused on strategy, communications, and leadership development.

Throughout his career, he has also held senior corporate affairs roles at Zambia State Insurance Corporation and Zambian Breweries, and has served on numerous boards across business, media, and non-profit sectors. A prolific author and speaker, Dr. Kanyama has contributed significantly to discussions on corporate governance, economic development, youth empowerment, and leadership, and is recognized as a trainer and mentor in these fields.

Ambassador Kanyama’s professional journey reflects a strong commitment to national development, international engagement, and capacity building. As Zambia’s envoy to the United States, he plays a key role in strengthening bilateral relations, promoting trade and investment, and advancing Zambia’s economic and diplomatic interests on the global stage.
