John Pence is an attorney in Ice Miller’s Government Affairs and Regulatory Law group. John has extensive experience as a public affairs strategist, communications advisor, and business consultant.
John helps with issue monitoring and engagement to support client policies, business strategies, and legal objectives. John merges the depth of his network with sound counsel and a trusted, insightful voice to strengthen his clients’ objectives domestically and internationally.
Prior to law school, John worked as a legislative affairs aide for the Office of the Indiana Attorney General. During law school, John was a legal extern for the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of Indiana, an extern for the legal department of Cummins, Inc., and a law clerk for the firm.
From 2016 to 2020, John served as a Senior Advisor to the Trump-Pence presidential campaign, working closely with The White House’s Office of Political Affairs and the Republican National Committee. John’s exceptional communication skills enabled him to appear on Fox News, CNN Español and hundreds of local affiliates in over 30 states as a communication strategist. John is fluent in Spanish, proficient in Portuguese and conversant in Arabic.
From 2020 to 2022, John was CEO of Pence Strategy Group where he advised clients through issue advocacy, strategic communications and business consulting to develop strategic initiatives within the e-commerce merchandise and fulfillment industry. He returned to the firm in 2023.
Internationally, John has worked in several countries in Latin America including Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and Nicaragua. John was a legislative fellow for the Attorney General of Colombia in Bogota, taught English to elementary students in Nicaragua, volunteered at a human rights NGO in Argentina, and was a law clerk for a Brazilian energy, infrastructure and mining company in Sao Paolo. In 2011, John received a Critical Language Scholarship from the State Department to study Arabic at the American University in Cairo, Egypt prior to being evacuated during the Arab Spring.
John received his juris doctor from Indiana University’s Maurer School of Law and his Master of Business Administration in finance and management from NYU Stern’s School of Business. John received his Bachelor of Arts from The College of William & Mary.
